Easton Mika (b. 1995, US) is a visual artist based in San Diego, California. She works with abstract painting techniques and film photography, exploring the intersections between the two mediums. Often drawing from personal experience and introspection, her paintings function as a kind of visual journal—processing thoughts, tracing lived moments, and moving toward deeper self-realization. Through multiple washes and textures, she creates layers of expression inviting a journey into deeper memory and emotion.
both / and studies the relationship we can hold between two separate ideas, experiences, or emotions that seem to pull us in different directions. This tension often feels unnatural—hard to grasp, as if it could come apart at any moment. There is a fragile boundary, and yet both can exist within it. Grief and joy can be felt at once; independence and dependence can be equally desired. There is a kind of rest we seek in the liminal space: in the both/and.
Through mineral pigments and raw, sewn canvas, each piece in this series holds both sides at once—separate yet inseparable, distinct and yet whole. The materials themselves shift between ground and displacement.
